Museum Catur Indonesia (MCI) Interactive Book
“The One and Only chess museum in Indonesia” — founded by Eka Putra Wirya and Grandmaster Utut Adianto — stands as a historic milestone for Indonesian chess. More than just a collection of artifacts, it’s a place of learning and inspiration, encouraging visitors to reflect on the values of the game and become part of its legacy.
This project was a collaboration with Studio Sunday, who curated the museum’s overall content. Our role focused on designing and developing an interactive book as part of the museum’s immersive experience.

Our Work
We developed an interactive book that tells the story of Indonesian chess in a fun, modern way. It features key moments, legendary players like Utut Adianto and Eka Putra Wirya, and other prominent grandmasters such as Susanto Megaranto, Irene Kharisma Sukandar, Medina Warda Aulia, and Novendra Priasmoro.
What makes this book unique is its immersive experience. When someone steps up to the podium, a sensor triggers a preview on the screen. As they flip each page, a matching video plays in front of them—bringing the content to life through motion graphics and voice narration.
Challenges
Our main challenges centered around the development of the interactive book. We had to gather and organize historical materials, design a unique visual style, and craft a narrative flow that worked with both visuals and motion graphics. Technically, integrating sensor-based interactions—such as detecting visitor presence and triggering videos when pages are flipped—required extensive testing and iteration to ensure a smooth and intuitive user experience.
Process
We began with a briefing to align with the museum’s vision. The client provided a book on the history of Indonesian chess, which we carefully reviewed to extract key information. We then discussed and refined the content together. From there, we created storyboards, designed custom visuals, and developed motion graphics. Voice-over talent brought the narration to life. Finally, we integrated sensors to trigger videos as visitors approached and flipped the book—delivering an engaging and seamless experience.
